Sitwonad (Haitian Style Limeade)

super easy

Limeade is a refreshing drink but it isn’t only for the summer time as some people might think; it’s more like a year round treat that accompanies your favorite Haitian dish. It’s the best thing to finish your meal off with…

For this recipe I used the juice of about 6-7 limes, it all depends on how large the limes you’re using are; obviously the bigger they are the less of them you’ll have to use and vice versa. Traditionally Haitians just mix the sugar into cold water but I feel like the sugar never really dissolves well with that method so I decided to make a simple syrup to start it off.   This recipe will just about fill  a 43 oz pitcher that has been filled halfway with ice cubes. If 1 1/3 cups of sugar seems like too much for you, eliminate the extra 1/3-cup of sugar (my mom said it was too sweet but I disagree).

I must say, I’ve had regular Lemonade and Limeade but Haitians have the ability to make the simplest thing taste so great! The addition of almond extract to this classic drink takes the taste up to another level; I hope you think so too 🙂
