When this whole COVID-19 business started, I like many of you saw a lot of WhatsApp videos that were circulating telling you what to do if you thought you caught the virus. Boil lemon and orange peel with garlic and ginger and etc etc and put a towel over your head and breathe in the steam as the heat was supposed to supposedly kill it… I was paranoid just like everyone else around the world, chile I don’t know. Alls (s added for that country twang) I know is I was influenced by it because I made this crazy concoction and was actually drinking it and it was gross. I mixed garlic, cloves, lemon peel, grapefruit peel and ginger… Yuck yuck yuck, it wasn’t a pleasant drink but I drank it, only because I’m that person who will drink or eat something nasty if there are health benefits to it. At one point I did say “ nah fam, I’m good, gotta figure something else out” LOL…

One of the ingredients I chose might have Haitians turning their noses up in disgust but listen Linda, listen. Jiwòf (cloves) are really good for you, yes I know you hate unexpectedly biting into one while you’re enjoying your rice, I know; but in tea it’s amazing. Cloves are anti-inflammatory, can help with a sore throat, headache, cold, cough etc etc read more about it here: Clove benefits

I also added Etwale (star anise) to it which is also good for cold symptoms and it has vitamin C in it as well as other beneficial properties: Star Anise benefits

When you put both of those babies together you have a winning combination and that my friends has been my go to remedy since this whole mess we call the Covid-19 Quarantine started, well not the very beginning but you know what I mean. Now, whenever I feel a little itchy itchy in my throat that’s what I make and I sweeten it with some honey, absolutely divine. Try it and tell me what you think! Oh and also check out my other Haitian tea recipes.
