Soup Joumou-Instant Pot version

Hey guys it’s that time of year again, yes again…. Why do I feel like I started my last Soup Joumou post the exact same way?? Maybe cause I did LOL… It was for Chicken Soup Joumou, click the link and let me know if I did start it that way or not LOL…  Ok moving along…

It is Soup Joumou time, mostly every Haitian person’s favorite time of year, it’s not just me right?? I know it’s not just me and because of that I thought to myself “I wonder if anyone has made our beloved Soup Joumou in the Instant Pot and to my surprise no one has tackled this task yet until today! If you’re reading this blog post then that means I have a sexy ass Instant Pot Soup Joumou video and recipe for you, yes you! You’re welcome!!

So when I thought of this I thought small batch because we are in Quarantine times (damn you 2020, as I wave my angry fist in the air). Ok I don’t really mean that, 2020 wasn’t all bad, sure Covid-19 happened and is still happening, sure I lost my beloved grandfather in March (not to the Rona). But those bad things don’t negate all the great things that happened this year, I was featured in a New York Times article about Soup Joumou and I’m very proud I might say!  I got more serious about my aspirations, I truly accepted myself this year, did a lot of inner work (still doing inner work) and I came out a better human mainly to myself. We are sooo hard on ourselves, the biggest critics even and we need to stop and be kinder. Ok back to what I was talking about earlier, small batch that will feed 4 people and still have enough for each person to get seconds (cause they’re gonna want seconds, trust me).

Here are a few of the other ingredients and tools you will need to make this soup, the rest will be below in the affiliate links section:

  1. Epis (Haitian Green Seasoning/Marinade)
  2. Pikliz
  3. Instant Pot
  4. Blender
  5. Peeler

I only used half of a Kabocha Squash which was 2.37lbs to be exact and it was enough for this recipe, so when you’re shopping around look for that.

I am using my 6-Quart Instant Pot Duo Nova, if you have a different model I hope these measurement work for you as well. The ingredients list is basically the same as my previous soup joumou recipes just decreased by a little. This recipe moves pretty quickly as long as you have your veggies peeled and cut and ready to go. I used beef but you can also use chicken or any other meat for that matter. If you’re not using meat just saute the garlic, onions and peppers first then add your blended joumou (squash) and continue following the recipe as is.

Happy Haitian Independence Day…I hope you love this recipe as much as I did!!
