Ji Papay or Ji Korosòl | Papaya Smoothie or Soursop Smoothie

Today, Ji Papay (papaya juice/smoothie) and Ji Korosòl (soursop juice/smoothie) will go toe toe. Both are common fruits in Haiti but I wasn’t sure if people actually ate them or not because what I’m most familiar with is people making a drink out of them. I asked a friend and he said exactly this: “I usually hear “M pral bwè ji papay, pa manje papay”. I guess it also depends on which part of Haiti as well.” Translation for what he said above is this basically “I’m gonna drink papaya juice/smoothie not I’m gonna eat papaya. This has also been my experience and I’ve asked a couple of my authentic Haitian people, friends and family who grew up in Haiti if they ate those fruits and some of them said yes and most said no. So that is up in the air (IDK), I’m gonna go with they just make drinks with it (shrug, LOL). Other than that I’ve been thinking a lot about the fact that we call it Ji which means juice but if we make it with milk which most people do it’s really a smoothie if you think about it. There is no word for a smoothie in Kreyòl so we just call it a juice (more shrugs LOL). I don’t make up the rules in Haitian cuisine guys, it is what it is. Do you guys eat those fruits or do you just make smoothies with them and also can you guys do me a favor and ask your native friends and family if they eat it or not? Let’s talk! P. S.
