Haitians Don’t Put Vegetables On The Side

So anyone who has experienced Haitian Cuisine knows that we don’t really eat vegetables on the side like many other nations do. You will most likely see at least two starches and meat on a Haitian plate; not the best thing health wise but that’s what it is. I recently posted the picture above on Instagram with the caption “It’s rare that you will see vegetables as a side on a Haitian person’s plate… This is how we eat our vegetables, we mash a whole bunch of them together like eggplant, carrots, cabbage, chayote, etc and cook it with beef, crab or other sea foods and then you have Legim (Legumes). How do you like your Legim?? I love mine with white rice” I pose that same question here and an additional question for you;  when you cook Haitian meals do you try to incorporate more vegetables, does it feel un-traditional when you do add veggies on the side? Let’s talk!!
