Consistency Challenge and why did I start this Food Blog?

Today I am doing something different, something I haven’t really done here on my blog. Every time I post something it is definitely a recipe, I mean duh it’s a Haitian Food Blog so why wouldn’t it be a recipe. Well today starts a challenge that I am taking part in called the #ConsistencyChallenge which is urging bloggers to strengthen their consistency muscle by posting a blog post every day Monday through Friday for 4 weeks total. I decided to do it because personally that is a muscle that I need to strengthen and the $1000 prize(if chosen) was a nice incentive as well. So I say all that to say this; I will be posting pretty consistently and it won’t always be a recipe, it will be Haitian food related but not always a recipe.

So now, back to the title of this blog post why did I start this blog? I got the whole idea in 2008 to start writing recipes because I wanted to learn how to cook Haitian food. I got a Haitian cookbook and thought it was good but thought it could be done better and that was my original idea, which was to write a cookbook that would include a DVD of popular recipes. But in 2011 while visiting a friend, we sat in her living room and I shared my bright idea with her and she said “um why don’t you just do videos for YouTube, DVD’s are becoming out of date” I mowed over the idea and accepted it. I began watching my mother in the kitchen preparing griyo (fried pork shoulder), banann peze (fried plantains) diri djon djon (black rice) etc etc, the list goes on and on. With the help of some awesome friends and family members we started filming and I posted my first video on YouTube in December of 2013 and it did well. I continued, not consistently but I continued and my following started growing and I was happy about that. People sometimes call me a chef and I correct them telling them that I am a cook not a chef and recently someone helped me come up with the term Culinary Coach, which suits me better. I started doing this to help others learn how to cook as I was learning how to cook because I’m good at simplifying things that may seem otherwise complicated and I take pride in that.

Today, July 6th 2020 I take part in this challenge to do just that challenge myself to be much better at posting than I have been over the years. If you’re reading this and there are things you believe you can be better at, I challenge you to do those things on a consistent basis, give yourself a chance to be great! Show the world and most importantly you, what you are made of!

Happy journey to Consistency guys!
